For Women in Science

A significant goal of the UNESCO science programme is public recognition and the worldwide promotion of the role of women in science, especially in life sciences. To this day, the multifaceted ways discrimination affects women still have their roots in unequal access to education and are then even more pronounced in access to higher education in sciences. The “For Women in Science” initiative, which was launched in 1998, is a collaboration between the L’ORÉAL cosmetics company and UNESCO. The objective is to recognise internationally leading female researchers and support young female researchers with fellowships.
This cooperation is also continued on a national level. Every year, four fellowships are awarded to young, highly qualified basic researchers in the fields of medicine, natural sciences and mathematics.
